Planting of "The Weight of Disappearance" | Public Installation by Matthew Li

The Weight of Disappearance is a self-portrait in three outdoor sculptures that together equal artist Matthew Li’s body weight (170 lbs). Bound with tapioca starch and sand, and holding native seeds, the works are planted across neighborhoods he has called home, left to dissolve back into the earth.
Meetup: 2:00 PM at Green Oasis Garden (370 E 8th St) for a short artist talk, followed by a collective walk to the nearby planting site. If you are running late, seed map wayfinders left at the garden entrance will guide you to the group. The planting wraps up around 3 PM, with time to linger afterward.
All attendees receive a custom-printed seed map to discover the other sculptures.
Rain date: Sunday, December 6, 2 PM. RSVP here.
