Import events from Excel and CSV spreadsheets
=============================================

If your events already live in a spreadsheet, you do not need to retype them. Upload an Excel or CSV file, confirm the column mapping that AddCal suggests from the first rows, check the preview, and import hundreds of events into a calendar in one go. Title, start, end, timezone, location, description, all-day flag, tags and RSVP settings all map from columns.

 What you can do

 What syncs between Excel and AddCal
------------------------------------

 Receives from Excel

### Suggested column mapping

AddCal reads the header row and the first few rows and proposes which column is the title, start, end and so on. Adjust anything it got wrong.

 Receives from Excel

### Preview before anything is created

See the parsed rows, including how dates were read, before you commit. Day-first and month-first dates are detected from the data.

 Receives from Excel

### Tags and RSVP from columns

Up to twenty tags per event and an RSVP column come across with the rest, so imported events are ready to share.

 Setup

 How to connect Excel to AddCal
-------------------------------

3 steps, no code unless a step shows some.

1. 1### Prepare the sheet

    One row per event with a header row. Dates can be in a single column with a time, or split into date and time columns. Save as .xlsx or .csv.

    ```
    Title,Start,End,Location,Description,Tags
    Term 1 open day,2026-02-14 10:00,2026-02-14 13:00,Main hall,Tours every 30 minutes,open-day;families
    ```
2. 2### Upload and confirm the mapping

    Open Connect, then Import events, choose the calendar and upload the file. Review the suggested mapping, set the timezone the sheet was written in, and check the preview.

3. 3### Import and share

    Run the import. The results page lists every event created and anything that was skipped, with the reason. The calendar is ready to embed or subscribe to straight away.

    ```
    Imported 184 events
    Skipped 2 rows: missing start date (rows 41, 97)
    ```

 Use cases

Excel and AddCal use cases
--------------------------

### Migrating from another calendar tool

Export from the old system, tidy the columns, and bring the whole programme across in minutes.

### A season of fixtures or performances

The fixture list or run sheet the team already maintains becomes a subscribable calendar.

### School and course timetables

Term dates and class schedules kept in Excel import once per term, with tags for each year group.

### Conference agendas

Sessions, rooms and speakers from the planning sheet become events with RSVP so attendees build their own schedule.

 Good to know

Excel integration limitations
------------------------------

### Ambiguous dates need a sanity check

A sheet with dates like 03/04/2026 is read as day-first or month-first based on the other rows. If every row is ambiguous, check the preview and switch the order before importing.

 FAQ

Excel and AddCal, answered
--------------------------

### Which file types work?

Excel .xlsx files and .csv files. Google Sheets exports to either from the File menu.

### How many events can I import at once?

Hundreds in a single file is normal. Your plan's event limit still applies, and the preview tells you before anything is created.

### Can I update existing events by re-importing?

No, each import creates new events. Import into a fresh calendar if you want a clean rerun, or edit the handful that changed.

### Do recurring events work from a spreadsheet?

Each row is one event. For a recurring series, import an ICS file instead, which keeps the recurrence rule, or create the series in AddCal and let it generate the dates.
