Import ICS files from Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar
================================================================

Every calendar app can export an .ics file, and AddCal can import one. Single events and recurring series come across together: the recurrence rule is kept rather than flattened into copies, and dates you removed from a series stay removed. Up to 2,000 events per file, from Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar or anything else that speaks iCalendar, into a calendar you can then share, embed and let people subscribe to.

 What you can do

 What syncs between ICS and AddCal
----------------------------------

 Receives from ICS

### Single events and series

Recurring events import as a real series with the original rule, so a weekly class stays a weekly class you can edit in one place.

 Receives from ICS

### Exceptions honoured

Dates you deleted from a series in the source calendar are replayed as exceptions, not resurrected as extra events.

 Receives from ICS

### Any iCalendar source

Google Calendar, Outlook, Office 365, Apple Calendar, Fastmail and most booking tools export .ics, and all of them import.

 Setup

 How to connect ICS to AddCal
-----------------------------

3 steps, no code unless a step shows some.

1. 1### Export the .ics from your calendar app

    In Google Calendar, open Settings, then Import and export, and export. Outlook and Apple Calendar export from the File menu. You get a .ics file per calendar.

    ```
    BEGIN:VEVENT
    SUMMARY:Weekly yoga
    DTSTART;TZID=Australia/Sydney:20260203T180000
    RRULE:FREQ=WEEKLY;BYDAY=TU
    EXDATE;TZID=Australia/Sydney:20260414T180000
    END:VEVENT
    ```
2. 2### Upload it in AddCal

    Open Connect, then ICS import, pick the destination calendar and upload the file. Files up to 2 MB and 2,000 events are accepted.

    [Open the ICS importer ](https://addcal.co/connect/ics-import)
3. 3### Check the result and share

    The summary shows how many single events and series were created and anything that was skipped. From there the calendar has its subscribe link, embed snippet and add-to-calendar links.

    ```
    Created 12 series and 40 single events
    Date range: 2026-02-03 to 2026-12-15
    ```

 Use cases

ICS and AddCal use cases
------------------------

### Moving a public calendar off Google

Export the shared calendar and import it, then give subscribers the new link with proper embed and analytics.

### Publishing an Outlook team calendar

The internal events calendar becomes a public one your community can subscribe to, without exposing the mailbox.

### Recurring classes from Apple Calendar

A studio owner who schedules in Apple Calendar imports the term once and shares a subscribe link.

### Archiving a season

Import last season's fixtures into a separate calendar so the history is embedded on the site alongside the new one.

 Good to know

ICS integration limitations
----------------------------

### It is a one-time import, not a live sync

Changes made in the source calendar after the import do not flow through. For a calendar that should stay in step with Google or Outlook, use external calendar sync with the feed URL instead.

 What you need

Works on every plan, including Free.

 Add-to-calendar links and the REST API are free on every plan. The Zapier app and Smart Links start on Premium. Webhooks and Dynamic Links are on Business. [ Compare plans ](https://addcal.co/pricing.md)

 FAQ

ICS and AddCal, answered
------------------------

### Is there a size limit?

Files up to 2 MB and 2,000 events. Split a larger export by date range in the source app.

### Will it duplicate events if I import twice?

Each import creates new events, so importing the same file twice doubles them. Import into an empty calendar if you need to redo it.

### Do time zones survive?

Yes. The TZID on each event is kept, so an event exported from a Sydney calendar stays at the right local time wherever it is viewed.

### What about a live link to Google Calendar instead?

Use external calendar sync. Paste the calendar's secret iCal address and AddCal pulls changes automatically every hour.
