Add-to-calendar buttons in Mailchimp campaigns
==============================================

Mailchimp cannot run a calendar picker inside an email, so an add-to-calendar button is really a link per calendar app. AddCal gives you those links for any event, you paste them into Mailchimp Button blocks, and every click lands in the reader's Google, Apple or Outlook calendar. Unlike the AddEvent block, clicks are never capped, and merge tags let one campaign carry a different date for each subscriber.

 What you can do

 What syncs between Mailchimp and AddCal
----------------------------------------

 AddCal sends to Mailchimp

### One button per calendar app

Google, Apple, Outlook, Office 365 and Yahoo each get a direct link, or use one link to the event page where the reader picks.

 AddCal sends to Mailchimp

### A different date per subscriber

Dynamic Links accept Mailchimp merge tags, so a webinar series or renewal date can come from audience fields.

 Receives from Mailchimp

### Clicks counted, never capped

AddCal analytics show adds per calendar app and per campaign through UTM parameters. There is no monthly ceiling on any plan.

 Receives from Mailchimp

### RSVPs back into your audience

Through Zapier, an AddCal RSVP can tag or add the contact in Mailchimp, so attendees get the follow-up sequence.

 Setup

 How to connect Mailchimp to AddCal
-----------------------------------

3 steps, no code unless a step shows some.

1. 1### Create the event and copy its calendar links

    Create the event in AddCal and open its public page. Add a calendar name to the end of the URL for a direct link, or share the page URL itself to let readers choose.

    ```
    https://addcal.co/e/evt_abc123/google
    https://addcal.co/e/evt_abc123/apple
    https://addcal.co/e/evt_abc123/outlook
    ```
2. 2### Add a Button block in the campaign builder

    In Mailchimp, drag in a Button block for each calendar you want to offer and paste the matching link. Append UTM parameters if you want the adds attributed to this campaign in AddCal analytics.

    ```
    https://addcal.co/e/evt_abc123/google?utm_source=mailchimp&utm_campaign=spring-webinar
    ```
3. 3### Optional: personalise the date with merge tags

    On the Business plan, create a Dynamic Link key under Connect, then build the URL with Mailchimp merge tags. Mailchimp fills the fields per recipient at send time.

    ```
    https://addcal.co/api/dyn?uid=dk_abc123&service=google&title=*|EVENT_TITLE|*&start=*|EVENT_START|*&timezone=America/New_York
    ```

 Use cases

Mailchimp and AddCal use cases
------------------------------

### Webinar invitations

Announce the session once; the button puts it in each subscriber's calendar with the join link in the location field, and a reschedule updates anyone who adds it afterwards.

### Store events and launches

A product drop or in-store day becomes a calendar entry rather than an email that is forgotten by the weekend.

### Renewal and deadline reminders

Store the deadline in an audience field and send one campaign where every reader gets their own date.

### Community and member meetups

A monthly meetup announced in the newsletter lands in members' calendars with the venue in the location field, and a subscribe link in the footer covers the rest of the year.

 Good to know

Mailchimp integration limitations
----------------------------------

### Mailchimp's built-in calendar block is AddEvent, not AddCal

The "Add to calendar" content block in Mailchimp is AddEvent's, and it counts every click against the AddEvent plan: 100 a month on their free tier, 2,500 on Small Business, checked October 2026. AddCal links are pasted into ordinary Button or Text blocks and have no cap.

### Leave click tracking on

Mailchimp wraps links in its own tracking redirect. That is fine: the redirect lands on AddCal and the calendar still opens. Only turn it off if you need the raw link visible in a plain-text campaign.

 What you need

Works on every plan, including Free.

 Add-to-calendar links and the REST API are free on every plan. The Zapier app and Smart Links start on Premium. Webhooks and Dynamic Links are on Business. [ Compare plans ](https://addcal.co/pricing.md)

 FAQ

Mailchimp and AddCal, answered
------------------------------

### Do I need Zapier to use AddCal with Mailchimp?

No. For calendar buttons you only need links. Zapier is for the other direction, such as adding an AddCal RSVP to a Mailchimp audience.

### Which plan do I need?

Per-event links are on every AddCal plan, including Free. Smart Links start on Premium. Dynamic Links with merge tags are on Business.

### Will the merge tags survive inside the URL?

Yes. Mailchimp's *|TAG|* syntax passes through AddCal's Link Builder unencoded. See the merge fields help article for the full list of tested formats.

### Can subscribers follow all my events instead?

Yes. Put your calendar's subscribe link in the campaign footer. Anyone who subscribes gets every future event in their calendar without another email.

### Does a plain-text campaign work?

Yes. Paste the event page URL on its own line. The reader opens it and chooses their calendar on the page.
