Add-to-calendar buttons and embedded calendars on Squarespace

Squarespace has no add-to-calendar block for ordinary pages, and the Events page link covers Google or an ICS file with no reporting. AddCal gives you a button that opens the visitor's own calendar app, and a full calendar you can embed on a page, both pasted into a Squarespace Code block. The button is one line of HTML plus a script, styled to match your site, and the calendar stays current as you add events.

3 steps, no code unless a step shows some.

1. 1### Copy the button snippet

    Open the event in AddCal, go to Share, and copy the website button snippet. It is one anchor tag plus the script, which you include once per page.

2. 2### Paste it into a Code block

    Edit the Squarespace page, add a Code block where the button should sit, and paste the snippet with the type left as HTML. Save, then open the live page to see the chooser.

3. 3### Embed a whole calendar

    For an events page, use the calendar embed instead. Style it in Connect, then Calendar embed, copy the snippet, and paste it into a Code block on a blank page.

A yoga studio or music school embeds its calendar once; new classes appear on the site and in students' calendars without editing the page.

Squarespace integration limitations 
------------------------------------

### Code blocks with scripts need a Squarespace Business plan

Squarespace Personal sites strip scripts and iframes from Code blocks. The button, calendar and event embeds all need Squarespace Business or Commerce. Plain links to the event page work on any Squarespace plan.

### Ajax loading on 7.0 templates

Some Squarespace 7.0 templates load pages with Ajax, which skips scripts on in-site navigation, so the button only appears after a hard refresh. Turn off Ajax loading in Site Styles, or use 7.1, where it does not apply.

### Does this work on Squarespace 7.1?

Yes, on 7.0 and 7.1. The only template-specific issue is Ajax loading on some 7.0 templates, covered above.

### Which AddCal plan do I need?

The add-to-calendar button is on every plan, including Free. Embedding a full calendar or an event page with its RSVP form needs Premium.

### Can I match my site's fonts and colours?

Yes. The button takes a theme, label and colour through data attributes. The calendar embed is styled in AddCal's visual customiser, including fonts, and the saved settings apply wherever it is embedded.

### Will it slow my page down?

The button script is loaded asynchronously and only does work when it finds a button on the page. The calendar embed fetches your events from a cached feed.

### What about the Squarespace Events page?

Keep using it for layout if you like. Its built-in add-to-calendar offers Google or an ICS file, with no one-click Apple, Outlook or Office 365 option and no reporting. Put an AddCal button in each event's description for the full chooser.
