FAQ Calendar invites, answered. --------------------------- ### What is a calendar invite, exactly? It is the same kind of invitation your colleagues send from Outlook or Google Calendar. Their mail client recognises it and draws its own Yes/Maybe/No buttons on the message. Accepting writes the event directly into their calendar, so there is no landing page to visit and nothing to download. ### How is this different from an Add to Calendar link? An Add to Calendar link sends someone to a page where they pick their calendar provider and confirm. It is the right tool when you are sharing publicly and do not have email addresses. An invite goes further: it captures their reply, and it stays connected, so when you change the time or cancel the event, their copy updates or disappears. A link cannot do that once it has been clicked. ### Which email and calendar apps does it work with? Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, Office 365 and any other client that understands standard calendar invitations, which is effectively all of them. We send a genuine iTIP/iMIP invitation rather than something proprietary, so the buttons are drawn by their app, not by us. ### What happens if I change the event? Everyone who was invited gets an updated invitation that replaces the old one in place, so their calendar shows the new time or location instead of a duplicate. Edits made close together are grouped into a single update, so a burst of changes does not mean a burst of emails. ### What happens if I cancel the event? Attendees receive a proper cancellation, which removes the event from their calendar. That is one of the main reasons to use invites over links: with a link, a cancelled event sits in their calendar indefinitely. ### Can I use invites alongside RSVPs? Yes, and they work well together. Attendees RSVP through your form, and everyone who replies yes automatically gets a calendar invite that stays in sync with their response. If they later change their answer to no, the invite is cancelled for them. ### How do people get invited? Three ways. Add addresses yourself from the dashboard, upload a spreadsheet to invite a list in bulk, or turn on self-serve so visitors to your public event page can request an invite with just their email address.
